I came across this article yesterday and thought it provided good advice/tips. Bottom line: Get your hands dirty, be unproductive and do something you love for 10 minutes every day.
The New Health Rules is a new wellness book offering 175 tips to readers. The “rules” cover eating habits, healing, and activity. The idea is to use the tips to improve health and well-being in small, manageable steps.
I haven’t read the book yet, but here are some of the tips based on the article.
Reset your back – after a long day at the office, use a foam roller at night to relieve tension and stretch your back.
Learn supta baddha konasana – The yoga pose is a heart-opening, lung-stretching, deeply restorative posture that opens the front of your body. After a day being hunched at the computer, the pose opens you up.
Eat protein, but don’t rely on energy bars – The average energy bar contains 20g of sugar (5 tsp). Make your own but if you’re in a rush, eat raw nuts. Sugar saps your energy and strength, sending blood sugar up before it crashes.
Move 5 minutes every hour – Great advice. Walk around your office, fill up your water bottle, walk down the hall to talk to a colleague.
Be unproductive – The brain and nervous system need a rest. Turn off the electronics and let your mind rest and relax. I’m finding this one more and more important. It’s easy to stay in over-drive all of the time. Cooking and baking are very relaxing for me so even though I’m being productive, it’s a different kind of productivity and one that relaxes my mind.
There are more rules in the book and in the article. What’s one that you already follow or will try to incorporate into your daily routine?
